To say the Chromecast is a rousing success is a bit of an understatement. It hit the market from out of nowhere like a whirlwind and quickly became the top selling Amazon device for quite some time. Now that some of the dust has settled, the Chromecast is now preparing to wow us yet again. Google's Chromecast chief Mario Queiroz recently shared that new improvements are...

In he blink of an eye last week, YouTube was killed off and removed from Google TV. Of course, sometimes something old has die in order to bring something new. Like a winged phoenix, YouTube is back to the Google TV. Not only that, but this time it includes an update to version 1.7.5. Here's what this new update includes:

Although the implementation is limited to running from the desktop only, YouTube live streaming has now come to the Chromecast. It's interesting, because even though the Android app still reports an incompatibility with YouTube live streams, almost every live stream is actually working on the Chromecast.

In fact, there is reason to believe that this isn't quite official yet, because...

Google Basically Dropped Google TV

It looks like Google TV is pretty much "dead" as a development platform now. Google just announced that most of their Google TV devices will not be compatible with Android TV and will not be getting the OS at all. While there are a few that might get it, Android TV seems out of reach for most of them. Here's their statement,

Just last week Koushik Dutta was teasing that he might have Android mirroring ready for the Chromecast soon. He must have worked hard on it all weekend, because he has already put up a video demo of the mirroring in action. While the video demo is obviously not the same thing as a release (beta or...

Here's an impressive deal on the Nexus Player. Google dropped $20 off the regular price, bringing the media device's price down to a paltry $79 bucks! We aren't sure if this is a permanent price drop or just a short lived sale, so you may want to jump on this early if you were considering getting a Nexus Player.

Here's the Google Play Store link:...

OK. Presumably because the device has full Flash 10.1 support the Revue is running Froyo (Android 2.2). Now using that same assumption I wonder if ADB tools can connect to this thing? If so that means some sweet .APK pulling and pushing at a minimum to start with. Dunno about you but me thinks the Netflix.apk on my rooted. ROM'd and OC'ed Droid would make me a happy camper. Thoughts?

Accidentally "patched" Asus Cube

So, I downloaded and installed Cuberoot from GTVHacker, but I wasn't paying attention and accidentally patched the device. Is there another way to root the Cube? I searched Google, but I wasn't able to find anything... I'm hoping the pros here might know something.

Notify My Android apk

Does anyone know where I could get the Notify My Android app apk?
It isn't in the play store for Google Tv, and I don't have a mobile Android device to download it on.
i want to try and sideload it onto GTV so I can use it with Growl for Windows and W7 Caller id to display my landline caller id on my Google TV.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Google TV OTA update

When I first booted my Google TV, it did an update over Ethernet. If we could get that update file, it might be possible to flash it in recovery mode. Unfortunately, I was too anxious to get my Google TV running, and I didn't think ahead about ways to find the update filename.

So, if someone has a brand new unit, and the techncal know how to set up and use an Ethernet sniffer, it might be good to capture the update download with a sniffer and see if it's possible to determine the URL...

The state of Google TV Hacking

I'm sure that Google TV will be a popular 'hacked' device. Whether it be a TV or (most likely) a set-top box.

What I'm curious about is how common people wanting to modify their units will be?

What will they modify, ie, what additions or subtractions will be made?

We don't know too much about Google TV units at this point, so it's hard to point out benefits of even hacking it but undoubtedly there will be some. I'm just trying to get an idea of what you think MIGHT be the things...
